Leeds started off strong with some short sharp passes which resulted in an early goal. (1-0) York soon responded and putting everything we learnt in training to practice we made it up to our attacking D. Becky Westgarth saw a great opportunity and put the ball into the bottom left of the goal taking the goalie (and herself) by surprise. (1-1)

Some excellent clearings by all defenders (Ellen, Jess, Amelia, Cat & Chloe) saw the ball go straight through Leeds’ press and gave Lydia Waters the chance to sprint up the pitch with both Kate Stoker and myself supporting. Lydia smacked another one into the back of the net making it 2-2.

Leeds pushed back and despite some great saves from Lauren Simpson in goal managed to get another one in for 3-2. Again York were not ready to give up and when given a short corner took full advantage of this with Harriet Ferris scoring off the post. (3-3)

The game finished 4-4, with Lydia scoring out last goal with a superb back stick which was made possible by Anna Salaman and Alex Newton making some good connective passes down the pitch.

A truly wonderful 7s game, with everyone putting a shift in and playing great hockey. You can really start to see training coming into our Saturday matches.

Player of the match: Becky Westgarth for the first true 7s goal!!
