The badgers season began with a strong start against Bradford.

The team worked together passing the ball down the pitch, linking nicely with each other, opening the opportunity for Oliver W-M to score the first goal of the game less than 2 minutes in. With a quick restart from Bradford, the York team managed to regain position with some lovely passing between Toby, Oliver, Flynn and Benjamin for Flynn to score the second goal for York taking them 2-0 up just 5 minutes into the game.
It wasn’t long though before Bradford scored their first goal -this however, did not phase the York team who came back with another well worked goal for Oliver. The team continued to work hard with their passes becoming more accurate and meeting the ball as they figured the pitch was making their passes slower. This allowed them to work the ball down the pitch for Alex L to claim a goal with perfect positioning on the left post.

4-1 at half time, the team went into the second half strongly, encouraged by their lead, but continuing to work the ball down the pitch together, making it into the D plenty, but a strong show from Bradford’s defenders and goal keepers kept the score line at 4-1. Though York continued to work hard keeping the ball in the attacking half, the York defence and goalies Dorothea and Darcey were given more work in the second half. Despite spectacular defending from Findlay and the rest of the defensive line, Bradford were awarded a short corner that they successfully converted into a goal.

4-2 to end a game that was played in good spirit with some impressive hockey skills shown by players on both teams. Well done to all the juniors playing in the first development game of the season.
