With the ladies teams plagued by player shortages, the ladies 3s were missing half of their usual squad. With the ladies 4s and a new couple of debutants for York, there were changes to all positions and a looming sense of uncertainty.
Nevertheless, York started out strong and defended well against constant attacks from Driffield on the right hand side. After the first 10 minutes, York found a way out of their defensive half to put some pressure on Driffield. And open field of play left the midfielders with plenty of space to run and find the forwards to create Yorks first attacking opportunity and in turn a short corner. Driffield were quick out to the top but an accumulation of defensive errors gave York a few more opportunities. Unlucky not to score Driff took their 16 and transferred around the back on several opportunities with York working hard to move across and chase down the ball.
A well worked first half saw an end of 0-0.
Play remained much the same in the second half until the last 10 minutes saw Driffield attack repeatedly. An outstanding performance from Yorks defenders including Jenni Fitton, Bea Prendergast, Lily Anderson and striker turned key defender Lucy Tate kept Driffield working hard to no avail. A well fought game by both teams all round and special thanks to those players who stepped up to fill in to earn Yorks 2nd point of the season.
