York ladies 3s travelled to Leeds Adel this weekend, a much shorter journey then the previous week but a tough side following Adel’s drop from division 1 and Yorks climb to division 2.
There were several big changes to the squad this week in terms of positions due to a combination of injury and absence.
Despite this, York made a strong start and hassled Adel well which appeared to dampen their high spirits on their club sponsorship day. Some quick attacking play led to a strike in from Desi Willms which was almost converted by Lucy Tate but narrowly stopped by the Adel keeper.
This was soon followed by an Adel counter attack which hit the post after tight defending by Dolly Dolton and Desi Willms made difficult work for the Adel striker.
Further back and forwards play won a short corner for York which was tightly defended and unfortunately not converted.
The half finished with a near York goal after a strike from the top of the D unfortunately rebounded off the keepers pads and hit a york foot.
With no subs available York knew they had to play the second half with clever hockey.
Adel started the half much more attacking however complete composure from Yorks back four and a super save from keeper Mollie Butler meant Adel would have to work hard to do anything with possession. Clever transfers around the back and some quick runs down the left and right from juniors Maisie Rintoul-Kidman and Bea Morgan forced Adel to work hard in return.
Overall York came away with a well earned point following a tough and tiring battle to finish the game 0-0.
