It was a very windy wet day away in Lincoln. The City of York Ladies 1s were looking for a win. Despite having to play under flood lights at 11 in the morning, the Ladies were raring to go.
In the first half, the physicality of Lindum put York on the back foot, and saw Lindum go 1-0 very early on. However, York were quick to react with a number of brilliant attacking plays starting from the defence all the way to the forwards. Amy Birch then upgraded her chance in the D putting it on a Lindum players foot. It was then Heather Macdonald’s time to shine. Even though the oppositions keeper decided to join York’s short corner huddle and knew what was going to happen, she still couldn’t stop Macdonald’s mighty drag flick. Bringing the score to 1-1 just before the end of the first half.
The second half started and York were all over Lindum. Lorna Rore, the Northern Powerhouse, & Emma Albery, the Southern Shakira, played fantastically in defence, showing that both ends of the country could match Lindum’s brutality. The defence stayed strong, with some fantastic keeping from Charlotte Neal, denying Lindum a number of short corner opportunities.
Some brilliant outlets at the back from Emily Gee, Heather Macdonald, Lorraine Pearey and Emma Brough meant it was time for the Barker twins, Lucy and Kate, to show off their outrageous stick skills. The twins, alongside Laura Horne, Ali Couttie, Celia Wright and Lily Rowntree created a huge array of immense attacking plays which ended in a number of chances for York to go a goal up. In the end it was a short corner that sealed the 3 points for York, an awesome set play with Annabel Howells-Lee scoring the winner!
2-1 York, 3 points secured, a great away win!
