City of York Ladies First Team travelled away to Leeds on Saturday 17 October 2020. Both teams started well with York playing the ball around well and Leeds putting pressure on York. York had a number of opportunities which narrowly missed and defended exceptionally well against a large Leeds squad of 18. After a passage of well worked play by York, a brilliant pass across the face of the Leeds goal found Lily Rowntree on the post, for a wonderful deflection into the goal taking York 1-0 up.
After the half time break, both teams fought hard for the ball with play very much end to end. Leeds had multiple chances to score with more than ten short corners given in their favour. Some excellent defence by York, and fantastic keeping by Charlotte Neal kept Leeds out and denied them a goal. At the other end, York won a short corner and Heather Macdonald stepped up, firing the ball into the back of the goal, giving York a 2-0 lead and the ultimate win. A fantastic game all round for COYHC Ladies First Team.
