After last weeks high scoring game against Hull the week started full of optimism. By Saturday morning, with last minute withdrawals, we were down to one sub and the news was that the Acomb M1s game had been cancelled.....
We decided to stick with last weeks 3-2-3-2 formation, though with several changes in personnel. The game started off in quite open fashion, end to end at times, with many penetrations into the opposition D. Unfortunately we didn't make all of these count. Tyler made some key interventions in goal and Willow scored for York but we went into the break 2-1 down, though it could easily have been York who led.
Half time Tangfastics and an encouraging team talk. We were still in this....
But unfortunately, whilst we battled valiantly in the 2nd half, legs began to tire. As a consequence we conceded to a penalty corner and then a field goal. We lost our sub to a ball to the head and Matt, after a great debut, went down with cramp. The umpires decided enough was enough (2 minutes early I think) and the game ended with a 4-1 win for Acomb.
All in all, not the result we had hoped for but the score line flattered Acomb (and I don't think any of their 1s were playing in reality) and really the game was decided by our 0.5 subs vs. Acombs 5. There were many positives for the M6s to take away in terms of passing, commitment and positivity. MoM to Aidan who, fuelled by as many legal drugs as it was possible to take, drove the midfield despite still not being 100% fit (and he did score 5 goals last week).
Back to the league (in which we are undefeated!) next week at home to Donny 5s.
