Mens 6’s finally returned to winning ways with a 4-0 victory over Ben Rhydding 5’s in a relegation 6 pointer.
The day started off inauspiciously when Bedders forgot his shorts and had to make an emergency trip to a local sports store.
This meant Garry took his place in midfield and it was he who opened the scoring after 5 minutes when Matt Marshall fired in a cross to the near post and Garry deflected it in past the stranded keeper.
With Dan Wall controlling the midfield ably supported by Ollie P and Marshall York continued to press and soon found themselves 2 up when a pass through to Sam on the 23 was well controlled and expertly laid off to Garry who had nobody in front of him and was able to stride unopposed into the D and despite numerous calls to shoot he took his time and slotted it into the far corner.
York were in dreamland but were nearly undone when a rare Ben Rhydding attack resulted in a short corner and Don was required to make an excellent goal line clearance.
York shrugged that off and continued to press and when Ben Rhydding dithered in their own D Garry was able to deflect the ball to Sam who dived to finish into the empty net.
The fourth arrived just before half time when more good work from Sam in the D saw the ball break to Garry who was able to force the ball in from close range for his hat trick.
The half ended with York wondering where this type of all round performance had been for the last 3 months.
The second half was a lot more even but the defence of Kieran, Roz, Bedders, Don, Mark and Jacob rotated well and stood firm against everything Ben R could muster. Roddy was as usual vocal and a wall when required and pulled off some good saves to maintain the clean sheet.
York continued to create chances with both Peacock’s going close and further chances for Ollie Zen Knight and Sam.
A great ten effort with the most pleasing aspect being the way the ball was moved around the pitch leaving Ben R chasing shadows.
Garry was MOM for the hat trick but was denied a clean sweep of the vote by his son who refused to vote for him on principle.
