Driffield started brightly and for the first 10 minutes, York struggled to get out of their half. However, York mounted an attack that led to a well taken goal (AP). Almost 2 minutes after this, AG added another goal and took the wind out of Driffield’s sails. The game settled to both teams exchanging attacks and Driffield scored from a short corner. Towards the end of the first half AP scored again with a lovely reverse stick shot, and TC also added to York’s goal score, which reflected York’s dominance at this stage in the match.
The second half saw much greater pressure from Driffield and George BC needed to make a number of crucial saves to keep Driffield from scoring. Despite this, and strong defensive work, Driffield managed to score again from a piece of individual skill. At 4-2 with not much time remaining, York managed to get the ball to an injured AP, lurking in the D, who deftly scored, to gain his hat-trick. (It seemed a harsh reward for a nicely taken goal to make him hobble back to the half-way line -Ed)
