After a successful away campaign so far for the York Mens 1s, the team travelled to Whitely Bay & Tynemouth to face a competitive opponent.
The game started well with York in full control, maintaining good amounts of possession and threatening the opposition 'D' early. Jack Milburn powered home from the penalty spot on the 2 minute mark, 1-0 City. After a further exchange of counter attacks and some good work on the left hand-side from Joel Pearce, a reverse shot was touched in at the near post by York 'stalwart' Tom Feasby. At 2-0 the game was in the away sides favour but in true City style, 2 break-away goals were conceded just before half time to level the game 2-2. There were two green cards in the first half for Dave Measom with a slightly 'miss timed' challenge and Charlie Borwell not totally sure why...
The second half started much as the first with York dominating ball possession in the early minutes, however a break away opportunity resulted in a penalty stroke for Whitley Bay. Chris Hogg's intimidating stature must have been too much for the taker, as the stroke was saved keeping the score line level. Cam MacKay received a straight yellow card for a typical Cam challenge. This only inspired some fantastic individual play from Ali Broadwith who dribbled past the Whitley Bay defence hitting the post with his final shot. However superstar finisher Callum Ross made sure on the rebound, just making it over the line from 30cm to make the score 3-2 York. With five minutes remaining James Fitton fired a shortcorner straight at the goalkeeper, once again making sure on the rebound and Toby Clarke finished the game with another bit of individual skill and a tidy finish.
A great result away from home winning 5-2.
