Following a 6-1 defeat last time out, the omens were not good against second placed Harrogate. However, Dougie had a practical plan to stifle the Harrogate attack, with help from the Wednesday evening coaches at training. This relied on a half court press with two banks of 4 defending the York goal and trying to catch Harrogate on the break.
Having had potentially 15 players available midweek, a combination of injuries and work commitments meant York only had 11 players for the match.
York started brightly, but Harrogate soon got into their stride and took the lead on 10 minutes. It would have been easy for heads to drop; however, York largely kept their shape and continued to defend resolutely. The defence being well marshalled by Roddy in goal.
Half time was reached with Harrogate being restricted to a single goal. The second half continued in a similar fashion, with York battling hard to contain Harrogate but unable to create any clear chances of their own. In the final 10 minutes pushed into midfield as York looked for an equaliser.
The game ended 1-0 to the visitors, but a much improved performance from York.
The man of the match voting showed what a good team performance it was several players being nominated including:
Oliver Peacock for outstanding defence
Dougie for tireless running and the tactics to negate Harrogate.
Tom for tireless running in midfield
Garry for excellent defending and pushing into midfield in search of an equaliser
The entire defence for a sterling effort.
However, with two votes for a string of saves and marshalling everyone:
Man of the match: Roddy.
