York take take the sting out of the bees

York 7ths had the advantage of home territory when they met a Bigley Bees team that had won last year’s league.
Once again York started brightly, moving the ball around well and putting some fear into the opposition. However, loose passing let Bingley settle into the game, before later in the first half, excellent movement from Harry Forman and Emil Waites began to open spaces in the Bingley defences. These spaces were utilised by the supporting midfield of Finn Baqai opening up space on the right, Aaron Clements giving width of the left and Jamie Clarke, now settling more confidently into the front of the diamond role and frequently probing the top of the D Pressure mounted across the opposition 23, as Felix McClean, Josh and Pete Perryman and Andy Forman kept pressure on any attempted clearances by Bingley, recycling the ball back into the pressure areas. The Bingley goal keeper did well to keep the ball out from several good attempts on goal by York. Finally, Allo (Big) demonstrated an old school reverse stick shot at a very tight angle that opened his account for the season and York’s account for the day. No tomahawk wind up required!
York pressure continued and Emil Waites selfless work rate so far this season finally paid off as a great right field cross from Andy Forman was perfectly met and roofed at the far post.
2-0 and things were going well for York – half-time Haribo were supplemented by oranges (chocolate). Suspicions arose that Bingley may have travelled without their top squad, although a couple of dangermen were identified.
Perhaps, due to the excellent effort put in towards the end of the 1st half, York duly lost a bit of shape and allowed these dangermen to come through from midfield with more time and space than previously. York capitulated a goal, and then another, due to a poor misstop and deflection from McClean senior. York had begun to give the ball away again in all areas of the pitch, but everyone dug deep and listened to the cries of Douglas Duffus-Hodson urging York to get their shape back. Simple passing once again opened up the pitch and Andy showed that any tricks Allo knew, he knew too, scoring another fine reverse stick shot. Douglas was more than a reassuring presence in goal this week and earned his crust, and man-of the-match voting, by smothering out the continued Bingley attacks. Unfortunately, a debatable Bingley short corner was converted as a shot got under the keeper’s pads and wasn’t stopped by the left post man. 3-3! Before York started the game they might have been happy with this, but the team knew they were more than capable of a 3-0 scoreline.

Digging deep again, York continued to attacked and were awarded a short corner, the cavalry man stopped, stepped right and the switched the ball left, with Josh Perryman placing the ball with some finesse, again, in the right hand corner.
4-3, a well deserved win. 9 goals in two matches looks good, but York will have to stop losing possession if they want to keep taking points from the teams at the top end of the league.
