Men's 7 take a 2-1 victory against Acomb 2

A hard-fought victory started the Men’s 7s season on a high.

The first half was an even battle, punctuated with an early goal by York. Murphy Riddel confidently moved the ball from the lower midfield to the opponents 16 before offloading to Andrew Wilson who put a clean pass in for Oliver Zen-Knight to take the goal. Leading on from this the 7s continued their efforts but conceded an unfortunate goal near the end of the first half.
A good team talk covered the cracks in our formation and made for a more dominant second half; a number of attempts made on goal by Andrew Wilson and Adam Dodson, and a near miss pinging from the crossbar by Murphy, saw to this. Noteworthy was the solid defence, led by Gary Peacock working with his son Oliver to give the midfield confidence to keep the press on. Brian Clarke kept us in the game with a solid short corner defence.

Dan Waite and Ian Wiggins maintained high energy throughout the game, reminding spectators of the Loonytoons Roadrunner as they sped along the side-lines, ever backed up by JP Wordsworth ready to move the ball between them.

Our youngest team-mate Alf Robinson played superbly with confidence moving the ball through the opposition and some excellent passes. One such instance had Ian Wiggins drive the ball along the centre before offloading to Alf who carried it to the top of the D, surrounded by the opposition he passed the ball to Adam Dodson who in turn made great assist with a solid pass into Oliver Zen-Knight to score again for York four minutes before the whistle.
Man of the Match was Oliver Zen-Knight for his relentless energy and being the top goal scorer.
A notable mention to Murphy Riddel who came a close second in MOM votes for his effort rate and being a reliable centre forward to connect the team.
