Arriving at Tadcaster on the back of an up and down weekend the week before, York knew they were in for a tough game against a team who is set for promotion and has only lost twice all season. After running into a familiar face of Swifty readying himself in the opposition goal York knew he would be out for revenge for being voted DOD on his only 6s appearance of the season.

Tadcaster started quickly, cutting through York’s banks of defense with concerning ease, only a MOM performance from Doyley in goal keeping them at bay from their first few attacks. This intense spell of pressure resulted in what can only be described as the most cynical back stick foul in the D anyone on the pitch had ever seen by Ledwell, seen by all but the umpires it seems until the guilt overcame York and the umpires were alerted to the foul resulting in Tadcaster’s first short corner.

This good sportsmanship was promptly rewarded with a Tadacster goal from a well worked short routine leaving York 1-0 down.

York rallied well and started to work the ball forward earning themselves a short of their own. A shot from the top of the D was saved by our former teammate only to fall nicely for the injector Bedders to slot the ball home and bring York back in the game.

With a renewed sense of energy, York eagerly pushed forward to pressure Tadcaster. This left York dangerously exposed and Tadcaster caught York twice on the counter in open space, scoring two goals to put themselves back on top going into the half.

York took a long hard look at themselves at the break and came out for the second half looking to get something from the game. The starting whistle was accompanied with a quick hail storm to sting York into action, moving the ball nicely down the channels into Tadcaster’s 22. York’s structure stayed firm and their hard work paid off with an exquisite solo goal, one handed from a tight angle into the roof of the net, putting Allo into contention for goal of the season much to the dismay of Bedders after his reverse tomahawk vs Boston Spa looked to be unchallenged till now.

Tadcaster pushed in response and found themselves frustrated against dogged York defending leaving gaps of their own for York to push into for an equaliser. In the end York ran out of time and the game finished 3-2 with the admission of the game’s first short seemingly costing York the game and earning Ledwell the DOD and match report duties. A consolation text from Swifty stating ‘he’d never seen this Tadcaster team pushed so far’ cushioned York’s disappointment and reinforced how good of a performance was put in by the whole team.

Next week York face Ben Rhydding 5s before hosting Tadacster in the reverse fixture where they will fancy themselves to get a result.
