On a surprisingly warm Saturday evening Yorks Mighty 6’s turned up 13 strong to face off against a legion of some 16, young, energetic, and surprisingly sober 20-something-year-old Uni students.
This was already a sign of things to come.
Despite an aggressive start from the Uni boys, Leeds failed to capitalize on several early opportunities thanks to some stalwart keeping from this week's rotating guest keeper, Dillon.
Unfortunately, York could only hold off the offensive for so long, after a round of back-to-back short corners Leeds were able to snag their first and only goal of the half, with a cheeky chip over the keeper's head.
A rather positive half-time team talk saw the 6’s switch tactics to a more defensive 4-4-2 in an attempt to deal with the highly mobile and adaptable Leed’s forwards.
With some fantastic movement from Sam and Bedders around the core of the pitch York were looking strong in the opening minutes of the second half, seeking to even the score with some high mobility up front from Jack, Murphy and Ernest York had no shortage of shots, alas, none came to fruition.
Within the final quarter, Leeds’ endless supply of fresh legs began to take its toll against a tiring York, with a series of goals making the final score 5-0 to Leeds.
Despite the result, York walked away with heads held high after a formidable display against a (generally) younger, fitter team.
