Driffield Away

The Mighty 6's second game of the season away at Driffield, which must be near the sea judging by all the bird muck all over the pitch! We started strong with some solid defence, working it through midfield to a speedy Ernest who quickly dominated the floundering Driff defence. Following a couple of near misses, Hoggy hit one in from outside the D to the back post where Ernest coolly slid in to bag the first goal. Driff then woke up and went on the offensive. Despite some staunch defending by Matt Marshall, Gordon and Kieran, they eventually got a goal back following a York 'freeze frame' moment after conceding a foot! At least we had learnt to play the whistle, oh no we hadn't! the same thing happened again and we conceded another goal! One to note for the training ground! As we tried to redress the balance we maybe pushed up too far and Driff caught us on the break and despite some great positional play by Swifty, being the last man standing the three-man attack was just too much and they slotted in another. We went into half time feeling hard done to as we had more possession and more D penetration. A positive start to the second half with the midfield of Hall, Moore, Wallis, Yates and Bedders dominating and getting some incisive passes to the forwards, creating some good chances and some near misses (guilty!!) Ernest taking the micky out of the defence and Allo applying his unique style of pressure (being generally scary!!) We eventually broke through and following a good save from the keeper, Sam Moore stepped up and smashed the ball into the goal, 3-2. Despite more pressure we never managed the equaliser. A great game played against a good set of lads from Driff. A well-earned MOM for Superstar Ernest and a questionable DOD for Hoggy!! (note to self, stay on feet and don't miss!!)
