A convincing 3-0 win over Airedale at home. York had 15 juniors so the adults were kept busy rotating the players with a few newcomers making their Badgers debuts. York started well and had a lot of pressure without converting the chances. Rufus Wordsworth finally broke the deadlock with a finely hit strike from the edge of the D. Airedale created some chances of their own but were thwarted by a couple of good saves from Seb Mortimer on his debut in goal.
Player of the match Thomas Gilbert combined well with Sam and Leo Barrett to open the defence on a number of occasions but the score remained 1-0 as the first half whistle blew. The second half opened up in much the same way with York extending their lead through Rufus and then making it three as Rufus managed to slot it home after a goal line scramble to complete his second hatrick of the season. The final result was 3-0 with extremely encouraging signs for the season as the new youngsters blended in extremely well and the older youngsters are growing in confidence. As usual York’s development side were encouraged by the loyal and vocal support from the sidelines.
