2009/2010 Season
20th September 2009 Session 1
City of York U16 A team travelled to
KC Stadium in Hull for their first league fixtures of the season, only
to find that there was to be only one team to play. They soon settled
into the game and were quickly on top with long periods of pressure on
the Hull goal. It was not long before they were a goal ahead, Lauren Boddison
picking the ball up just inside the Hull half and making her way past
several Hull players, finishing with an impressive strike from the top
of the D. York continued to play very tidy and disciplined hockey for
most of the game. Boddison to score again from a well worked short corner.
As the game continued Hull found some form and played the ball around
nicely bit this did not trouble the well organised York defence. As the
York girls tired in the heat they began to rely on counter attacking hockey
through which they scored a third goal when Sarah Clay finished well from
a Charlotte MacDermottroe cross. The game finished 3-0 to York with the
whole team playing their part in a fine display of hockey. New comers
Hannah Gee, Jasmine Colley and Ellie Sugden all contributed well to the
team performance.
City of YorkHockey Club Under 16 Girls B Team journeyed
to Harrogate to start the new league season.
In their first match against Harrogate, York played excellent hockey creating
a number of spurned chances from breaks down the right wing by Vicky Wrigley
who was well fed by Tonia Monoyiou.
Eventually goals from Amber Moores and Sian King gave York a deserved
2-0 lead but York let Harrogate back into the game with a goal and right
at the end conceded an equalising goal fro a 2-2 scoreline
In a local derby against Selby,York came out on top thanks to an early
individualistic goal from Sian King This was followed up with some good
inter-passing hockey and further scores from Zara Gower and Gemma Kane.
Against Brigg York battled well , despite playing without a Goal Keeper
.
York's solid defence with Izzy Taylor and Vicky Hodgson prominent held
firm and eventually York's pressure was rewarded thanks to a Frankie Marsh
drag flick from a short corner move.
Amber Moores struck home a further goal to give York the win.
18th October 2009 Session2 YYHL
City of YorkHockey Club Under 16 Girls A Team
City of York A team travelled for their second league session of the season
to Harrogate on 18th October. The girls put on a very impressive display
of hockey in the two games they played. The first game was against Brigg.
York started very well and created lots of pressure on the Brigg defence.
York took a 2-0 lead with both goals coming from new centre forward Zara
Gower. The game then became scrappy and York were distracted by rough
play by the Brigg team. They lost a goal due to lack of concentration.
However the team then regrouped and got back on top to finish 3-1 with
the third goal been scored by Sarah Clay with a firece shot into the roof
of the net. City of York then played against Thirsk and continued with
excellent hockey straight from the start. Emily Gee scored the first goal
from a well worked short corner. As York took total control it became
frustrating as they struggled to convert many chances. Their second goal
came from a diving strike from Lauren Boddison. The York team then showed
excellent team work and brilliant hockey to run out 5-0 winners with three
more goals from Charlotte Worsman, Charlotte MacDermottroe and Zara Gower.
City of YorkHockey Club Under 16 Girls B Team
Nap Hand for Jazz Colley
City of York Hockey Club Under 16 Girls “ B ” team travelled to Barnsley
on Sunday 18th October
Against Rotherham, York played some good hockey with Ella Davies and Fizz
Punnett working hard.
Although they had many chances, York were unable to find the net and had
to settle for a 0-0 scoreline thanks to good defence by Izzy Taylor and
Vicky Hodgson.
Against a strong Sheffield side, York again created scoring chances but
in the end they had to settle for another 0-0 draw with new keeper Ellie
Fletcher producing some good saves.
Weaker opposition in the form of Leeds “B” allowed York to show off their
skills. Frankie Marsh opened the scoring with a superb strike.
Jazz Colley then followed up with an amazing five goals before Gemma Kane
netted to give York an impressive 7-0 victory.
22nd November 2009
City of York Hockey Club A team.
In a day where Beth Worral had only one touch in the whole session the York A team played some classic passing hockey to secure two wins and a draw.
A 3-0 win against Selby gave them a good start but in the second game against Sheffield the girls were unable to get the ball past the county keeper. They drew 0-0. In the final game York came back to their winning ways with a 1-0 win against Leeds.
City of York Hockey Club Under 16 Girls ‘B’ Team
City of York Hockey Club Under 16 Girls " B " Team played three
matches at Thirsk on Sunday 22nd November
In the opening match against Driffield York played some good passing hockey
with Penny Newson and Gemma Kane having some good runs down the flanks.
Vicky Wrigley and Eve Bracken worked hard in mid-field and Yorks efforts
were finally rewarded with a gooal from Amber Moores.
Stout defence from Vicky Hodson and Izzy Taylor helped keeper Ellie Fletcher
keep Driffield at bay for a fine York win.
After 60 mins wait, York were then on again against a strong Doncaster
team and before they had properly warmed up York were quickly 2 goals
down. However York battled back and had chances to get back in the game
through Frankie Marsh and Jazz Colley. Doncaster then increased their
lead and held on for a 3-0 victory.
In their final game against Wakefield, York again found their form with
Kayleigh Kilsby linking well down the right, whilst Sopphie Sweetland
battled up and down the left wing. Wakefield scored against the run of
play and then added a second .York continued to play good hockey with
Fizz Punnett prominent, having appeared to have never stopped running
in all three games, bout the final result was a 2-0 win for Wakefield.
RESULTS/MATCH REPORTS FROM SUNDAY 21 MARCH 2010
City of York Hockey Club Under 16 Girls
On March 21st City of York A and City of York B girls U16 teams travelled to Darton High School for their last league session of the season. They were expecting to play against Wakefield A and Slazengers but as these two teams failed to show the two York teams only had each other to play. The game was a typical game between two teams from the same club. They train together and know each others game inside out. However the A team took early control and were soon 1-0 up with a well struck short corner from Lauren Boddison. York Bs provided some good defence with Felicity Punnett and Izzy Taylor playing well throughout. York As continued to press and spent long periods of the game in and around the B teams D. Sian King scored the As second goal as she took the ball round the keeper as she laid on the floor following a good save from Charlotte MacDermottroes original strike. As the A team piled on even more pressure the game was wrapped up with another goal from Lauren Boddison as she weaved her way into the Bs defence and shot from the top of the D, a shot which the Bs keeper could not keep out after getting a hand to. The score finished 3-0 to the York A team.
2008/2009 season
City of York U16 Girls Hockey in Yorkshire Youth League 28th Sept 2008
City of York U16 Girls A had an encouraging start to their Yorkshire Youth League campaign with 3 wins out of 3 against Selby, Brigg and LA Carnegie. Their first game against Selby began fairly evenly as York were slow to hit form. Lauren Boddison broke the deadlock after 10 minutes with a well placed short corner strike, only for Selby to respond minutes later with an open play goal. York then worked hard to sustain long periods of pressure and earned several short corners but they were unable to convert. Better chances were created in open play with Charlotte McDermattroe and Georgie Grant breaking through the Selby defence and Grant eventually came to the rescue by squeezing the ball home to give a 2-1 result.
Brigg provided similar opposition in the 2nd game as York fought for control of the midfield and as the balance of the game started to tip in York’s favour they lost Mcdermattroe through injury. Ruth Hally filled in up front and York, after re-adjustment pressed the opposition defence. Good link up play from Rebecca Lovelady, Emily Gee and Beth Hamilton on the left hand side provided attacking opportunities but the only goal of the game came from a break down the right with Grant crossing the ball hard across the face of the goal and Gee finishing in style.
York raised their game in their final match with LA Carnegie. The York defence of Emma Hessay, Julia Megone and Becky Smith worked tirelessly as Carnegie put on the pressure. Emma Keaney pulled out some fine saves to keep York in the game. York surprised Carnegie with a breakaway goal as Grant was released early and scored with a strike from the edge of the ‘D’. The game changed with York gaining more of the play down both flanks, but were unable to penetrate the opposition ‘D’. York’s energy faded as they neared the end of their third game and Carnegie, playing their first chased the elusive equaliser. The defence were again worked hard and captain Ellys Lockett led the way as number one short corner runner in closing the opposition down. The result stayed as 1-0 in favour of York.
U16 Girls B team At short notice a team of U14 Girls
went to fufill the U16B fixtures at Halifax on 28th Sept
Playing some attractive attacking Hockey,York were unlucky not to score
from some good short corner moves ,Ella Davies and Tonia Monoyiou seeing
shots slip past the post.
The defence looked confident in this 0-0 draw
Against a strong Wakefield side ,York held out with some excellent goalkeeping
from Beth Worrall.
However the pressure eventually paid for Wakefield who netted regularly
late on to take the match 4-0
As Driffield B were unable to raise a team York were given a 3-0 win
City of York U16 Girls Hockey in Yorkshire Youth League 26th Oct 2008
City of York U16 girls had a slow start to their second league session
in Harrogate on Sunday 26th October. Their first game was against Doncaster
who got into their game a lot quicker than York. After being under pressure
for most of the game York eventually lost 1-0 to a scrappy goal after
the defence failed to clear a good save from goal keeper Emma Keaney.
In the second game they played against Kirklees and seemed to find a bit
more form. After numerous wasted opportunities York finally got off the
mark with a well worked move from Lauren Boddison onto a run from Sarah
Clay who crossed the ball for Georgie Grant to score at the far post.
This seemed to give the York team more confidence and they finished with
a 2-0 victory, Georgie Grant scoring the second on the other post.
In the final game York played against a well organised Harrogate team.
York played some of their best hockey in this match. Becky Smith doing
an excellent job of keeping Harrogates best player under wraps. The game
finished 0-0 with another good defensive performance by Julia Megone,
Yorks player of the day.
City of York U16 Girls Hockey in Yorkshire Youth League 25th
Jan 2009
U16 girls at Harrogate played two games in the YYL
They showed no rustiness having not played together since October and made an incisive attack from the first whistle. Rhydding responded strongly and provided stiff opposition as York tried to get a better grip of the game. Despite many attacks on the Rhydding 'D', York were unable to convert the chances they created. Rhydding became more dangerous and were thwarted by the resolute York defence. Emma Keaney in goal had few shots to handle but was never seriously troubled by the opposition. The only goals of the game came less than 5 minutes from time as Emma White struck a right wing cross for Beth Hamilton to latch onto and sweep into the goal.
The final score was 1-0 to COY.
An easier match immediately followed and York won a very comfortable game 4-1 against Leeds. Scorers were Lauren Boddison, Charlotte Worsman, Beth Hamilton and Emma White
City of York U16 Girls in Yorkshire Youth League finals day
City of York U16 Girls came runners up on the day having lost 3-1 in a closely fought contest with Doncaster in the final.
In the round robin York were placed in the stronger league and started with a 3-3 draw with eventual winners Doncaster. Doncaster took the upper hand early with two strikes in the first 10 minutes but York forced their way right back into the game from the second restart with a sweeping move which saw Sarah Clay hammer the ball home. Moments later Lauren Boddison levelled the scores with an awesome short corner flick which shocked the Doncaster defence. York played with more confidence and were rewarded as they went ahead 3-2 with 5 minutes remaining. Doncaster then threw everybody forward and managed an equaliser just before the finish.
In their second match York took on the strongly fancied Sheffield side who had demolished Hull 6-0 in their first game. Sheffield started over confidently and were surprised by a swift counter attack up the left wing through captain Ellys Lockett and Emily Gee and a switch across right to see Charlotte McDermottroe finish in style. Sheffield struck back with a short corner but York regained the lead with a fine solo run from Charlotte Worsman who dribbled past several defenders before slipping the ball through the keeper.
York were in control for much of this game and were unlucky not to extend their lead but Sheffield came back with two minutes remaining. Another short corner conversion made the final result 2-2.
York needed a win in their final group match to make the semi finals and did so in style with a 5-0 win against Kingston upon Hull.
The semi final had to be settled with a penalty flick competition after the game was level at the end of normal time. Penalty flick conversions from Boddison, Emma White, McDermottroe, Julia Megone and Charlotte Worsman with a flick save from Emma Keaney in goal ensured a 5-4 win, and a place in the final.
