With Isobel Hall working hard in mid-field, York added a further goal through Ellie Martin to run out 2-0 winners.
In their final match against Hull, York’s defence of Rachel Hall and Sally Hicks did a great job in protecting goalkeeper Laura Woosey. However Hull went 1-0 up with their only chance of the game. Skipper, Sophie Kettlewell , then drove the team forward and York equalised through Ellie Martin ,for her third goal of the day. Although York then had all the pressure they were unable to find the net again, having to settle for a 1-1 draw

City of York HC winners of U13 Girls North Yorkshire Yazoo mini Hockey 2008/2009 - 18th January 2009

REPORT:
Very Good defensive play from all the defenders, as most played in defence at one time or another very good, this was a much better "team" performance than previous meetings. All of the girls showed a lot of grit and determination - Laura Wooosey played very well when they got near the goal!! The whole team played with some very good passing and interplay in the middle of the pitch, with excellent ball speed beating most of the opposition. A good team performance all playing very well in their positions and moving as they should with vision and belief. - Great team effort, especially taking "time off" as and when required.

Hannah Yoward showed excellent maturity when with about 40 seconds of the game to go York under pressure, she pushed the ball the full length of the pitch and "out of the gate" to ensure York got the extra time.

City of York U14 Girls " A " squad travelled to windy Harrogate on Sunday 8th March

York were soon into their stride against Slazengers, thanks to a well taken goal from Ella Davies.
Amber Moores, Vicky Wrigley and Gemma Kane all added to the score for York to run out convincing 4-0 winners

Kirklees were the next opposition and a tough game was expected as they above York in the league.
Undettered, York continued with their game plan of attacking down the right side with Zara Gower & Tonia Monoyiou providing good service for the strikers.
Gemma Kane was on hand to score a hat-trick , one goal being a great deflection from a well struck Frankie Marsh short corner hit.
Kirklees did break away from the intense York pressure to score but the final 3-1 scoreline reflected York' dominance.

In their final game ,York were without goal-keeper Beth Worrall and borrowed a volunteer from Slazengers.
This didn't worry sweeper Fran Keighly who held the defence together well.
After an early scare York once again started to control the game and their pressure brought a goal from Amber Moores.
Gemma Kane then scored her fifth goal of the day before Vicky Wrigley followed up her own shot to deposit the rebound into the net to give York a deserved 3-0 victory.

The great teamwork and team spirit of working for each other throughout the season has seen the team lose only one game and they now go forward into the play-offs with great optimism.

U14B team @ Ben Rhydding

The girls (and parents!) endured all four seasons of weather today at Ben Rhydding! That did not tarnish the teams focus or determination as they approached each match.

York demonstrated excellent team work throughout the first match against Driffield. Jazz Colley worked with ease to control the ball through the defence, resulting in the first goal. With constructive work from Eve Bracken, Hannah Gee and Sophie Brown in mid field, the team went on to have a convincing win; with a further goal from Jazz Colley and the third from Rachel Taylor, who swept a crossed ball into the bottom right corner.

LA Carnegie stepped onto the pitch and the team were taken by surprise as an early goal was scored by the opposition. Laura Woosey (GK) went on to make some crucial saves for the duration of the match, ensuring that York maintained the minimal gap. York B kept battling forward and increased the tempo of the match play. After a couple of missed opportunities, Briany Costello stepped up to score the equaliser in the last minute of the game!

The sun was a welcome sight for the spectators at the start of the final game. With much encouragement from the side line, York B team went on to win their final game against Wakefield 5-0. There was good distribution from Rachel Taylor and secure defence from Vicky Hodgson and Lucy Byran. Hannah Gee (Captain) scored two goals in the final game, her first was a cracking goal, a solid hit, lifted into the back of the net. Sophie Swiz put the ball through to score from a rebound. Jazz Colley went onto claim her hat trick for the day. A goal resulting from a short corner was scored by Vicky Hodgson.

Final scores:

York v Driffield: 3 – 0 (w)

York v LA Carnegie: 1 – 1 (d)

York v Wakefield: 5 – 0 (w)

CHAMPIONS of YORKSHIRE

City of York Hockey Club Under 14 Girls side won their age group of the Yorkshire Youth Hockey League Play-offs at Halifax on Sunday 19th April.

Led by captain Frankie Marsh, who played her usual midfield holding role, York competed against the other top 7 teams from around Yorkshire.

In the first game of their 4 team pool, against favourites Wakefield, York came away with a 1-0 thanks to a typical opportunist’s goal from ace goal-poacher Gemma Kane.

After a break, York’s next challenge was Thirsk.
Tricky right-wing runs from Vicky Wrigley produced plenty of crosses for powerful centre-forward Amber Moores to pressure the Thirsk defence, which eventually paid dividends with two well taken goals from her.
Kane then nipped in to add another and finally some penetrating runs from Sian King brought her the reward of a goal for a 4-0 victory.

Now guaranteed a place in the semi-finals and knowing that they now had 3 games in a row coming up, York cruised a little in the match against Driffield.
Although Tonia Monoyiou and Kayleigh Kilsby worked hard in mid-field, York were unable to beat the excellent Driffield keeper and had to be satisfied with a 0-0 draw.

This pitched York straight on into a semi-final match with a fancied Doncaster side.
However thanks to a strong performance by the tireless Zara Gower, York dominated the game.
Vicky Wrigley eventually broke the deadlock with a well taken deflection into the net.
Doncaster then broke away to beat keeper Beth Worrall and even things up.
The York girls gritted their teeth and fought back strongly. Frankie Marsh was unlucky with some well struck short corner strikes.
Finally experienced striker Ella Davies popped up to score what proved to be the decisive goal putting York through to the final against earlier group opponents Wakefield.
Playing their 3rd game on the bounce (Wakefield had had a 45 min break before their semi- final match) York were feeling the pace although Fizz Punnett showed tremendous energy in midfield throughout.
Solid Defence from sweeper Fran Keighley and full-backs Izzy Taylor and Eilish Deighton ensured that York were in no danger at the back.
However the York forwards were unable to score the vital goal and the final 0-0 score line meant that the match and title would be decided by a “5 stroke penalty shoot out” followed by sudden death.

In the pressure situation, Amber Moores coolly slotted home the first penalty as did Izzy Taylor with the second.
Misses by Frankie Marsh and Zara Gower were countered by saves from keeper Beth Worrall.
This gave a 2-2 score line going into the fifth round of flicks.
Fizz Punnett safely netted for York and then Worrall brilliantly saved the Wakefield flick to secure the title for the jubilant York girls.
