Sunday 12th October 2008

City of York Under14 Girls "A" Team commenced their season at Doncaster on Sunday
Against Bradford ,the girls played skillful hockey creating many chances with good linkage down the right wing, where Vicky Wrigley was a thorn in the side of the Bradford defence, linking well with the industrious Zara Gower.
Although they played most of the game in the Bradord half of the field York had to be satisfied with a 2-0 victory courtesy of goals from Sian King and Zara Gower.Fran Keighly was the linch pin of the defence snuffing out any thoughts that Bradford had of attack with a fine display as sweeper.

In their next match against last seasons league winners ,Doncaster, York once again started with good linking hockey being driven on in midfield by Frankie Marsh.
Pressure resulted in a 2 goal lead thanks to efforts of Sian King and Jazz Colley.
Against the run of play Doncaster came back with 2 breakaway goals to level the scores at 2-2 and although York piled on late pressure they were unable to find a winner.

Selby were unable to field a side so York get a conceded 3-0 win for that match

City of York Hockey Club under 14 girls B team travel to Ben Rhydding to play in the Yorkshire Youth League.
They first played Ben Rhydding B started slowly drawing 0-0 until the last 8 minutes when they scored two goals. These were well finished by Lucy Bryan and Britney Hopkins.
Next was a very strong LACarnegie side and the team defender bravely with Vicky Hodgson clearing the balls numerous times. With one minute left York broke away down the right and a thunderous strike by Hannah Gee won the game 1-0.
The last game was against Wakefield B where both sides had chances to score but it was Wakefield who did with a rather scrappy goal. York kept attacking and with only two minutes left the worked the ball down the left and across to Lucy Bryan to score the equaliser following good passes by Emily Carman and Penny Newson.
