Goals Glamour On Glamorgan Hockey Tour
The U15’s boys and girls City of York Hockey Tour saw 28 goals scored in the 6 matches on their recent tour of South Wales.
The tight schedule and match program saw both teams play Cardiff Hockey Club on the Friday night with the girls setting off the trend for the weekend with a 3:0 win and the boys following with a thumping 7:1 victory. Captains Lauren Boddison and Myles Rawlings keeping control of the game and goals from Seb Murgatroyd (3) Emma White (2), Josh Longster (2) Myles Rawlings, Fiona Bolland and Jack Purrington.
Saturday saw the teams travel to Swansea with the boys taking their game 6:0 with a great performance of outstanding flowing one touch hockey. The series of open play goals came from Josh Longster (5) and Jack Purrington. Unfortunately the girls faultered 0:4 against an extremely strong Swansea side who are current Welsh National Champions. The score line not reflecting the closeness of the game and the effort put in under extremely hot conditions.
The final brace of games was on Sunday morning against Whitchurch Hockey Club and saw the girls maintain structure and determination after a late night and yesterday’s disappointment. Taking the game 4:1 and having a further goal disallowed. Captain Lauren Boddison took a hat trick with a goal from Emma White completed the scoreline. However it was the boys turn to face the Welsh National Champions and they did so with confidence, teamwork and tenacity. Wining 8:1 and rounding off the tour with 5 wins out of 6 games. Goals coming from Josh Longster (4), Myles Rawlings (2), Seb Murgatroyd and Jack Purrington.
Both sides defence played outstanding games conceding only 6 goals over the weekend.

U14s in Edinburgh
Festival of Hockey in Edinburgh
The under14 Girls & Boys teams from the City of York Hockey Club travelled
north to Edinburgh last Friday for a weekend of Hockey.
On Friday evening the teams took on Watsonians with the boys having a
fine 4-2 victory whilst the girls suffered a 5-1 defeat.
In the ever present “Scotch Mist” the teams visited Inverleith for their
Saturday fixture. The boys again played skilful hockey to record a fine
win by 5 goals to 1. The girls started to find there form and could have
come away with more than a 1-1 draw.
An early start on Sunday saw the teams up against Cala Edinburgh. The
boys played outstanding hockey against a team that contained some older
opposition. Although ahead at half-time, tiredness kicked in and the team
went down to a gallant 5-4 defeat.
It was now the girl’s opportunity to shine and the 3-1 score-line of their
win would have been greater but for Nathan (TASH) Wilson, the boy’s keeper
who played in goal for the Edinburgh girls and prevented more goals for
the York girls with some outstanding saves.
