Final positions:

1st City of York A 13 points (For 7, Against 0)
2nd Kingston upon Hull 10 (For 5, Against 1)
3rd Wakefield A 7 (For 2, Against 0)
4th Rotherham 6 (For 5, Against 4)
5th Slazengers 4 (For 1, Against 3)
6th Driffield 1 (For 0, Against 12)

The A team had a tough first game against Hull but managed to score with a lovely goal set up my Millie Grant and put away by Lauren Ellwood, the team fought hard to keep a clean sheet and started the session with a 1-0 win.
The next game against Wakefield A was another toughie and the girls played very well but couldn't mamange to find the back of the net. The strong defence of Amelia Browne and Emma Mallett ensured that Wakefield A did't score either and contributed to Wakefields run of 4 no-score draws. The team beat Slazengers 1-0 with a goal for Mille Grant and lovely mid field play by the Birch Twins who covered a lot of ground, ably supported by Hannah Woosey. The girls set the pace playing against Driffield and despite good play by their opponents managed an impressive 5-0 win (Lauren Ellwood 4, Rebecca Birch 1). In the final game all girls played brilliantly, Emma Mallett and Amelia Browne defended excellently and kept an accomplished goal-hanger in their sights. Katherine & Rebecca Birch and Hannah Woosey had a good game in mid-field and after a few near misses Millie Grant scored the last York goal of the morning to win the game and the League. The girls rejoiced in being Champions of the League which has displayed a progessively higher standard over the season. Five of the team move on to play at U12 level next year whilst Lauren Ellwood and Hannah Woosey can enjoy the challenge of retaining the Champions of the League title for York yet again with some up and coming stars from the B Team.

U13 s Yorkshire Minis Report

Report from the Yorkshire finals

A squad from City of York Hockey Club Under 13 Girls travelled to Wakefield under the captaincy of "Birthday Girl " Fizz Punnett for the Yorkshire Finals of the "YAZOO National Mini Hockey Championships"

York had a great start when Ella Davies scored twice in a 2-0 win over Tapton(Sheffield)
A 2-0 defeat at the hands of Wakefield GHS ,left York needing a draw or better against Hull Collegiate to secure a semi-final place.
Thanks to some suberb Goal-keeping by Beth Worrall and great work-rate by the outfielders a 0-0 draw saw them through.

In the semi-final against Doncaster the winnersof the other pool, York attacked strongly and soon established a 2-0 advantage thanks to goals from Ella Davies and Rosie Cordingley.
An injury to the strong running Zara Gower caused a rearrangement but the York team never looked in danger with keeper Beth Worrall dominating her "D" and a result 2-0 in York's favour saw them made runners up to Wakefield GHS in the Tournament . As such they qualify for the Northern Finals at Belle Vue ,Manchester at the end of April.
