All children from reception age upwards are welcome to join Beginners coaching sessions at 6pm on Friday evenings at Huntington School sports pitch from September to March. The sessions are fun and last an hour introducing children to hockey or finessing their skills prior to joining their age group. To join, the child must register at the club by clicking on the JOIN tab at the top of the club's webpage so that the child is covered by the club's insurance, will be on the register for the evening and parents/guardians will receive any relevant emails. It does not matter what stage of the season you join, there is a wide range of abilities and children will be moved up once ready.

The first two taster sessions are free enabling the child to establish if they like the game before paying the one off fee for the season.

We have plenty of sticks that can be borrowed. All hockey players wear shinpads and gumshields. It is advised that children do so straight away, certainly once they have completed the taster sessions. Wear clothing suitable for the weather.

Additionally the club runs the Hockey Heroes 8-week courses which is for 5-8yr olds who haven't picked up a stick before, which is run next to the beginners session.

Those who have done the course will be welcome to then join the Beginners sessions. There is no requirement to do this course prior to joining the Beginners, the course is a structured programme created by England Hockey. To sign up and for further information - www.hockeyheroes.co.uk.
